The traditional acrylic pour is the most basic of all acrylic pouring techniques. This pour involves mixing paint in separate containers and then pouring the paint onto the canvas or surface color by color. 

The colors can be poured in a variety of different methods to create completely different pieces of art.

This technique is achieved through pouring colors onto each other directly on the surface rather than in a cup. You can pour it all from the center, from side to side, diagonally or whatever way you can think of to make a great piece of art.

This technique is achieved when all colors are added one by one to a cup or container and then poured together to create a piece of art. This style mixes the paints and creates awesome effects.

The treering pour method is exactly how it sounds, a pour to make a  tree ring effect. It begins with a dirty pour cup of paint. Once the cup is full you pour the paint out of the cup onto the surface in a small steady flow. The cup is then constantly moved 1/2" from side to side slowly or in a small consistent circular motion.

As more paint lands on the surface the rings expands outward creating the desired tree ring effect, like rings from the trunk of a tree.

The puddle pour is a more uniform method. It is based on the traditional pour. Rather than pouring the colors randomly on the surface you pour "puddles" of each color. The puddles expand by adding additional colors into the center of the puddle. You can either pour small puddles or large puddles. The larger puddles will be very pronounced and the smaller puddles will get lots of color variation as the puddles expand.

This is a technique that uses air to manipulate the paints on a surface.  Hair dryers are often times used but air brushes can also be used along with the painters mouth or straws to blow the paint around. Dutch pours are most known for ribbon like edges and often have the look of flowers. Cell lacing can also be easily achieved using this technique.

In this technique, the paint colors are added to a cup or container dirty cup style one by one. The surface is then placed on top of the cup and the surface and cup are flipped over. The cup is then lifted from the surface and the paint is able to escape and mix together. Multiple small cups with one color in each can also be used with this technique.

This technique is achieved through laying a strainer or similar item down on the surface you are pouring onto and pouring paint one color at a time or in dirty cup style into the inside of the strainer. After each color is used the strainer is then lifted straight up and placed to the side. This pour creates amazing flower-like effects.

This technique is almost exactly like a strainer pour except you use a plastic bottle cut 3/4 of the way down the bottle. Lay the bottle down on the surface from the cut edge (the bottles bottom will be facing upward) on the surface and pour each color over the bottle. This technique also creates awesome flower effects. 

This is the technique I offer for my coaster and hot plate sets. This process begins with putting a pillow paint layer on the surface and spread it all over the tile from side to side. Then use prepared colors (mixed with mica powders/pigments and polycrylic) layer each color in a puddle and add either a black or white cell activator in the middle and blow out with either your mouth, a straw or small hair dryer on cool to develop the desired effect. The tile is then spun to stretch the cells.

This is the simple process of either dipping the surface into either left over paint from previous pours or a more uniform look can be created with adding colors onto a flat surface. The surface is then dipped front side down into the paint and brought back up. The paint will then self level but create  tips. 

This process comes from chaotically applying multiple paint colors all over one side (usually) the bottom of the canvas and then tilting to melt the colors into each other or swiping the colors. Using a small balloon or, sometimes multiple sizes of balloons depending on the size of the surface, dip the balloon(s) into the excess paint and dob other areas of the canvas. You can then add other embelishments with blowing the paint upward and adding wisps up ths also creates gorgeous flower effects.

This method is commonly used with strings, small chains or stringed beads. The paint is applied to the string(s) in whatever way you want the length of the string(s). The string(s) are then gently placed on the surface careful to not drip much paint onto the surface. After each string is placed on the surface you then pull either each string individually or pull them all together to create beautiful flower effects.

This is the process where multiple layers are placed on the surface in 2 to 3 inch strips going down the surface, commonly canvases and wood. With the color you want to swipe the colors down with as the top layer. Use a swiping tool, that has a flat edge, (ie: piece of thin plastic, damp paper towel, scraping tool or a palette knife) to swipe down from the first strip to the bottom strip. This develops circular cells of paint that pushes up through the swiped color. 

This type of painting is achieved very easy. You place the surface on a table and elevate one side of the surface about 3 to 4  inches above the table. Prepare your cup dirty cup style and pour the paint out of the cup slowly and consistently above the elevated side of the surface. You can either pour the paint with no motion but moving from one side to the other side of the surface to create the waterfall look. Or you can create a tornado effect with this type of pour.
